Vaikunda Ekhadasi :
This is the first function of this glorious year and also falls on thursday
Sri Maha Vishnu is worshipped by duly performing abhishekam and alankaaram.
It is believed that devas(from heaven) used to worship Him today and He will attend to His devotees from Paramapadha vaasal, and thats why they arrange a “Sorga vaasal thirapu” function in all Perumal temples like Sri rangam,Titumala-tirupathi,tiruvallikeni Parthasarathy temple, etc… and there is also a belief one who fasts on Ekaadhasi and chants the names of Lord Vishnu will attain high regards in life and Sri Vaikuntam.
People used to fast on ekaadhasi and will stay awake till dwaadhasi(they engage themselves in namasmaranai, bhajans,Vishnu sahasra nama parayanam in order to avoid sleeping),and On dwadhasi they will cook and eat “dharanai”-a spl gravey made using many vegetables and worship Lord Vishnu in temples and in general they dont sleep till evening of dwadhasi.
For any vratham to be performed two things are essential one being sraddha and the other bhakthi, the former supporting the later & vice versa, ensuring peace to the Bhaktha.
